Be forewarned. The following post may get all serious and deep up in here. It may be sappy and cheesy but it's 100% true and from my heart. Now with that disclaimer, let's get an entry written up in this bitch!
I was originally planning to do a "year in review" type post in December, and I will likely do a post at the year's end complete with pictures documenting the highlights of 2013, but today's post is more of a coming of age story about my life in the past year.
You see, Thanksgiving weekend 2012 was when I started to think about making some big changes in my life. I was deeply unhappy and unsatisfied with my life. I was more heartbroken than I think I would've liked to admit at that time. As someone who has struggled with depression in the past, I recognized that this was a path that I could not continue on. There were some very negative aspects going on in my life and I needed to do something, anything, to change it.
Now, I don't do anything at 50%. I flipped my entire life around as much as I possibly could. I switched jobs and decided to go back to school without looking back.
At first I felt a little bit discouraged, because I still had unpleasant feelings about myself and my life (even though it was comforting to know that it would be temporary). Throughout the past few months at school, I almost felt like I was in a coma at times. I got through my days on very little sleep and felt like a zombie for most of the time. Between work and school, my social life was nearly non-existant. I eventually left my job at the end of my first semester because the course load was increasing dramatically. Fortunately, there has only been one emotional meltdown caused by finances since then.
I officially finished school on September 20. I guess you could say that I have been doing some "freelance" administrative work between then and now. Although I am currently unemployed, I'm finding my job hunt to be rather fruitful, which is amazing.
It's kind of funny how when one thing in your life starts going really well, your overall outlook on life becomes positive as well. I have the energy to work out everyday... I'm finally starting to look and feel more toned and I'm eating a lot healthier as well. I'm much happier and I feel a lot more like an adult every day. I have the most supportive and caring friends and family. These are all things I'm grateful for this Thanksgiving and I hope to carry this positivity into 2014 (it's sooner than we think!).
While in so many ways, I feel like I haven't changed, but I really and truly have grown up this year. A good friend told me back in January that 2013 would be a good year for me, and I never really believed him until now. I've made so many discoveries about life and people, such as how it is possible to end a friendship on good terms, and that only you can really change the things that make you unhappy. I've learned that alcohol can't always hide your problem. I've learned that saying "I can't do this anymore" to something that is causing you great grief doesn't make you failure. You can't help someone with their problem if they're not helping them self. Just to name a few things I've learned.
I think the next time life knocks me down, I'll just look back and remember these things. I have a lot to be thankful for this weekend.

happy holidays vs merry christmas
So this debate pops up every holiday season. You know the one I'm getting at. Basically, people who celebrate Christmas get all butt-hurt when someone wishes them "Happy Holidays", and people who don't celebrate Christmas cry when they get wished a "Merry Christmas".
You didn't ask for my opinion, but I'm gonna give it to you anyway: Both sides of the debate are stupid.
HAPPY WHO GIVES A FUCK!

halloween halp!
Who's all stoked for Halloween? OH I SURE AM! Last year I was Meowth from Pokemon, and my costume was pretty half assed. At least I admitted it. This year I'm going to be a toddler in a tiara!
Me.
I'm still not 100% sure how I'll pull this off though! Should I get a wig or just struggle with doing my hair? Should my makeup make me look like a whore? Should I get a tan? I feel like I should get a tan. Most of the shock value that comes from watching Toddlers and Tiaras is when mothers tan their daughters. Okay yeah, I'm gonna tan.
Needless to say, I am very, very excited to scare everyone with this costume! I hope everyone pukes when they see me!

valentine's day
Oh my God you guys! Valentine's Day 2011 is going to be the best Valentine's day ever, because I actually have a Valentine! And she's not a random stranger! You may know her as Kirsten.

This is me and Kirsten at grad. Double babe alert, am I right?
Sadly, a provincial border is keeping us apart, so we won't physically be seeing each other this coming Monday, but we're still Valentines, and that just makes me even more excited for when I can see her next! I can't wait! We're gonna hug and cuddle and maybe make out a little? And maybe we can be Valentines next year and go all the way ... to Whistler for the weekend.
I hope that all my widows out there have a Happy Valentine's Day!

merry christmas from widows on the dock
Oh hey, it's almost Christmas. Maybe I should acknowledge that.
My gift to you this year is a helpful list of things you can do to turn your "holiday" into a "loliday":
-drink alcohol
-buy shit for other people
-make your guests sit down and watch your favorite movie when they come over
-feed the dog alcohol
-feed the baby alcohol
-record yourself smoking salvia and put it on youtube for all your friends to see! :)
-tell people what you really think of them
-punch your mother in law in the face
-reminisce with your friends about the time you all went to this sick night club on Elbow Drive, and get violently angry when they tell you that there is no such night club on Elbow Drive, and that you must've dreamed it
-kiss everybody
-football tackle the christmas tree
-get really offended when someone says "happy holidays"
-scream randomly
-get 'a wonderful christmas time' by paul mccartney stuck in everybody's heads. THEY WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER FOR IT
-steal some bread. if you get caught, tell people that you're gonna give it to some starving children like a motherfucking modern day jean val jean
-go to the extreme with your emotions
If you try just one or all of these things, you should be LOLing in no time!
Merry Christmas everyone!

things to be thankful for
The season of Thanksgiving is upon us, and I must say that it is quite possibly my favorite holiday. I mean, Christmastime is rad and all, but it goes on for like 2 months and I'm not ready to get back into my life routine until like, January 15th. Thanksgiving is awesome because it's just a weekend and that is just the amount of time I need to spend with my family before I start hating them. Enough about that shit, today I'm going to list the things I am thankful for.
1. Betty White. If there's one thing the world needs, it's more Betty White. She may look like a precious old lady but we all know that she's a pistol. I want to adopt this woman as my third grandmother. If I make it to 88 and am half as badass as she is, I'll consider myself pretty lucky.
2. All the sexy people I know. There are seriously WAAAAAAAAY too many to list, but they probably know who they are.
3. Peanut M&M's. If M&M's were WWII, Almond M&M's would be the Nazi's and Plain M&M's would be the Jews. Peanut M&M's would be the Allies and... I'd want to eat that war.
4. The fact that I only puked twice this year! Oh wait... maybe three times. I don't even know.
5. Great music came out this year! Sadly horrible music came out this year too... but a lot of it was great!
6. As of tonight, the 2010-2011 NHL Season is underway!
...That's it.
